Shadow got to stay with his friend Baron the yellow lab, and Ron the dog lover, while Carl and Mel drove to Phoenix. We had a very successful shopping trip, and Shadow reportedly slept on the bed. Shadow got the best of the deal.
This landscape looks really green to us now, the Sonoran Desert about 50 km out of town. Click to enlarge and you'll see two of our favorite cacti:
The Ocotillo is the one I call the "firework cactus". In the spring it gets red flowers.
The other one we like is this one, but we don't know its name. It comes in many forms, and we call it the Suess cactus.
The Sonoran desert(once we get 50 clicks north) is really quite beautiful. Mountains and cactus, and different every time we drive through. Next time, I hope, will be months from now. I remember it's lovely in May.
There's a huge Wal-mart just off Highway 85. We left town about 2:00 and got to the Walmart about 7:30. Picked up cheddar cheese, feta, Parmesan, dill pickles, Dijon mustard, pickle relish, good pasta, black olives, brown sugar, butter, an upright vacuum, a small barbecue, propane bottles, and dog food.
Stayed in a nice motel called the Three Palms in Scottsdale, and got up at 6 to get to work on this storage area full of Macy's stock.

Four sweaty hours later, and we have a partial inventory:
After which we left to drive home. Home, sweet home. We stopped at Lukeville. This is the sum total of Lukeville. A post office, a Mexican Insurance place, and a pretty good grocery store which stocks....feta cheese. Good to know.
It was over 40 degrees, and we were both pretty hot, tired and sweaty by the time we gathered up Shadow, who had been playing in an air-conditioned house with his new friend. Bastard.
After unloading the car and a shower, we needed some Tecate, so we strolled over to the Circle K. And discovered that beer comes with swag here, too!!
We were too tired to cook, so we just had some carrots and celery sticks, some dill pickles, and crackets and cheese. That's not a typo:
Watched last season's final episode of Grey's Anatomy, and then sayonara. G'nite, game over. Tomorrow's another day. And by gosh, here it is!
